How to turn off OVER LOAD function about bq29312a?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29312A

hi. I'm KIM

I have a question about bq29312a.

I 'm using  bq2084+bq29312a chipset. But I don't want to use DISCHARGE OVER LOAD function of bq29312a. Is it possible to turn off with bq29312a?

The below data is about 29312a. I believe OV function off if 'XOL' bit is changed from low to high. Unfortunately, I can't find to change this bit.

please advise to me.

thanks.

  • Kim,

The device does not offer the option to disable the AFE over current features. You can set the detection threshold and time to their maximum values to make it unlikely that a fault will be triggered.

  • TOM,

The current situation is as follows.

The device(we are making)' 1st overcurrent protection value is 30A, AFE OC Dsg vltg and AFE OC Dsg Delay are 1F(HEX)  and 0F(HEX) respectively.

The device's continuous Current is 10A but it rises at 40A at motor driven time for 40ms. At the driven time, AFE OC Dsg is set. So I want to disable the AFE over current feature or increase the AFE OC Dsg Delay time more than 100ms if possible(I know that the AFE OC Dsg Delay max time is 31ms.).

Is there another way to solve the problem.

  • Kim,

The only option would be to reduce to value of the sense resistor. The smallest recommended value is 5 mohm, but you would probably still hit the limit. You could try a 3 mohm to see if it works. The concern would be current measurement accuracy at the lower charge ad discharge currents.

  • Thank you for Reply Tom.

I replaced sense resistor from 5mohm to 3mohm but the problem has not been solved.

The bq2084evsw did not recognized when I made a current calibration after changing sense resistor.

The bq2084evsw did not recognized less than 5mohm sense resistor value when making a calibration.
