Can I run two LMR10530x simple switchers in parallel?

Hi,

I'm looking to run 2 or more LMR10530x simple switchers in parallel to obtain a higher current output.  Is this possible with the simple switcher?

Is there an easy way to do this?

Should I use two shottky diodes at the ouputs, and do a single voltage sense that runs back to both switchers?

My main concern is that it's possible that one switcher might fight the other.  Is this something to worry about?

    The quick answer is that you probably could share the current, but the additional part cost  and complexity probably isn't worth it.  Your diode method would work but it would not balance the loads between the two parts.

     

      You would need to add circuitry to sense the current on each loop and adjust the feedback voltage accordingly. The simplest way is too measure the current across the inductor either with DCR sensing or a resistor.  Then based upon the voltage drop across the resistor you could compare to the voltage drop on the other and send an integrated error signal to a summing circuit on the fedback.  In other words complex and too much work.

    Much easier and cheaper would be to use one of our higher current parts.  WIth a quick look a Webench on the TI home page I found the following 6 amp solution for you the LM20136

    You're right - that sounds like a lot of work.

    I will look into using the LM20136 (to get to 6A at 1.1V).  

    It seems that if I need more current (say 12A), we cannot easily gang together switchers - and would need to find a bigger switcher.  (I was hoping to gang together 4 of the 10530X parts to get up to 12A at 1.1V for another high power application).

    We have other parts that can be put in parralel for higher current.  If you can give me a list of the voltages and currents in your designs we could look for other solutions.

    For Example the TPS84A20 is a current sharing 10 amp module, that is very easy to configure for multi phase operation.
