Simultaneous Wireless Charging and System Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24278, BQ51013B, BQ51013, BQ51013A, BQ51051B

Dear Specialist,

I am developing a battery powered wireless system (3-7 V, probably Li-ion/po) and it must be be charged automatically and wirelessly whilst also powering the system. The two operating modes could be described as:

1. Battery Powered Operation

2. Simultaneous Wireless Battery Charging and System Power

For our prototype we will order the BQ51013EVM-725 Receiver and the BQ500211EVM-045 Transmitter. As for the battery management and system power circuitry, I believe that we will require something like the

BQ24278 single-cell switch mode battery charger with power path management.

I have read several data sheets as well as the helpful document

„Designing a linear Li-Ion battery charger

with power-path control“ by Charles Mouney“

I believe that this is a decent solution. I would like to know if this combination of products will satisfy the relatively lax requirements of this project.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Benjamin Cole

    Benjamin,

    Two more suggestions:

Using the bq2425x charger family with bq51013B, we suggest using the HPA764 Rev C unseated, it is the most updated.

Also, Bq51013 is old part; use the bq51013B (wpc1.1 compliant) or at least a bq51013A if wpc1.1 is not needed.

The other solution is using the direct charging solution using the bq51050; the regulation voltage is 4.2 or 4.35V (bq51051B).

    Thanks
