PTH05020W DCDC converter Only outputs max Voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH05020W

Hello,

I have recently built a text fixture using a high current DCDC converter to power 150 USB devices at once.

During construction and testing, the output leads were inadvertently crossed momentarily and now the device only outputs max voltage (actually closer to 3.0Vdc and max is 3.3Vdc) and does not respond to INHIB or Rset.

Is the device toasted? I assumed it would handle the over current but I'm guessing its time to buy another one.

Thanks in advance,

Zach

  • Zach:

PTH05020W  appears to have  the remote sense  damaged.  The unit is likely to be open feedback control circuit. The inhibit and the RSET are not contolling the output voltageYou could attempt to directly connect the (+) remote sense pin 5 to pin 6 output voltage pin

Or I recommend you puchase a new PTH05020WXX.

If you have a e-mail address with any company.com ,it may be possible to order a sample from theTI WEB site.

  • Sorry to verify and un-verify,

My follow-up question would be: Is there a limit to the overcurrent protection? Is it normal for a short as described above to destroy the function of the device? I would simply put a fuse in the line, but the testing fixture which I am designing will OFTEN encounter a device with a short. It seems that this is not the proper module to supply the power....

    Thanks again
