LMZ22003 inductor EMI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ22003

It is my understanding that LMZ22003 has the inductor integrated.  I am trying to improve EMI and was wondering if the inductor was open or closed core or is that even an option for an integrated inductor.

Also for the LMZ22003, I tried sycronizing with an external clock at 800KHz (1.25us) with the 50ns on time (4.16%) duty cycle and it worked.  However in the data sheet the min and max is 15 to 85% with a typical duty cycle of 50%.  Am I suppose to stay within this range to ensure reliable operation or I am misunderstanding something?”

  • The inductor is shielded.

It has been our experience that using a small input filter to the regulator will greatly improve both radiated and conducted EMI.

The min and max sync duty cycle limits from the data sheet should be followed.  Although under some conditions the sync function may work with wider limits, this would not be a robust design.
