Using BQ24014 switch-mode charger for a low Ichg application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24100, BQ24014, BQ24230

Hi,

I have a need to use a switch-mode charger (Ex. BQ24100) in a portable application with a maximum output charge current of 50-100mA.  The reason I'm considering a switch-mode charger is because the system is required to charge from a 5V USB source as well as a higher voltage 12V nominal source (could be as high as 16V), and I'm concerned about heat and thermal management issues (since it's such a tiny application PCB) if I were to use a linear charger such as the BQ24014.

My question is what kind of efficiency should I expect to see out of the BQ24100 for a charge current setting of 50-100mA, the datasheet does not characterize efficiency for less than 150mA of charge current.  The other concern is current regulation accuracy for charge currents that small.

I'd appreciate any advice in this regard.

Thanks.
