TPS2556: what is the purpose of two inputs

Hi folks,

I was checking TPS2556/7, this may be very naive question, but I am curous to know about the purpose of two inputs in tps2556/7. Does this package contains two independent blocks? Maximum total input voltage is 6.5 so if I am giving 3 to both input, would it add up to 6 or its a package of two ckts with two outputs? I checked datasheet, and is not explaining about this, I believe. And if i am giving only one input, Would it give same voltage at both the outputs?

TPS2556/7's continous current can be up to 5A, in order to guarantee engough current capability, must need more boding wire from package's pin to pas on silicon, so there are 2 input/output pins, they are internally connected together, if just give one input, 2 output will have the smae voltage.

Just to clarify, basically both input are shorted inside and hence both are same points. So, hypothetically, if somebody connect a 2V on one input and 3V in another input, is wrong, right? And it is always recommended to connect both input to same potential(short circuited to the input source) in case of our system draws more current?

Yes.

In addition, compared with just connect one input, connect both input together, also can reduce the total Rdson from IN to OUT, thereby reduce the I*R drop on the power switch.
