TLC5948A -- Minimum VOUTn Specification

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5948A, TLC59482

Hello,

TLC5948A data sheet apparently does not specify minimum voltage from OUTn to ground for which it provides specified current regulation for an LED. Value is hinted at in several places under TEST CONDITIONS where it is usually VOUTn=0.8V, but could not find a minimum specification. Need to know this to select minimum VLED to minimize TLC5948A power dissipation when LEDs are on.

Also, is TLC5948A being replaced by TLC59482? Designing new board, so want part with longest life. Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks for choosing tlc5948A.

This min voltage can be found in fig13 & 14 of datasheet(fig13 is at 3.3Vcc condition, fig14 is at 5Vcc condition. There are some typo of test condition, will be corrected later).

This min output voltage is related with the output current and Vcc. E.g, for 20mA output current, the min output voltage needed is 0.3V under 5Vcc condition.

tlc5948A will not be replaced by tlc59482, they are targeting different applications. We prefer use 5948A in static application (no multiplexing) and the application need full failure detection.

59482 is general purpose PWM driver, can be used in either static or multiplexing application which need lower system cost.
