I am a student at the university and I need advice on selecting the proper power MOSFET. I am building an solar inverter . The PV outputs 34v at max 300w. is CSD18502KCS power mosfet suitable for my application? note that I am starting my design from the mosfet going to the gate driver thank you

Do you see any ringing? What frequency are you operating at?

You may want to go with a 60V FET so you have some more margin. Maybe the CSD18532KCS

hey Brett,

switching frequency will be 10khz, fundamental is 60 hz. sorry I did not understand what you are referring to by "if I see any ringing?"

Majdi,

Ringing is a common in high frequency applications due to parasitic capacitances and inductances of the board and its components and the fast switching of the FETs. However, this is relatively low frequency so you may not see too much of it.

When you say 34V max that the FET will see, is this just the input voltage? If so, I would expect the drain to source voltage of the FET could potentially see some swinging about 40V that would lead me to believe you need a 60V FET.

However, if the 34V is indeed the maximum (ringing included) voltage that the FET will see, than 40V is fine and the CSD18502KCS should work.
