LMS8117A output and input capacitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMS8117A

Hello,

I'm using LMS8117A regulator with 10µ tantalum as input C, and 22µ tantalum as output C.

I want change the tantalum C  to ceramic MLCC. Is this possible?

Many thanks for the answers

    As a drop-in replacement ... No.

The ESR requirment for Cout is an absolute must-have for stability of the control loop.

You can simulate the needed ESR by adding a series resistor to the ceramic MLCC used for Cout.

Be sure that you use X7R or X5R, and that the actual working capacitance with an applied DC voltage is close to the required 10uF minimum. Cap mfgr should have the de-rating information available.
