Query regarding UCC28610

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28610

Hi,

We have designed 5V@5A USB charger from reference of below link.

http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp5952#1

First trial: when we start testing of our board, It works fine without load but when we applied 2A load to circuit, IC UCC28610 and MOSFET SPD06N60C3 are fired. So please suggest us where I am doing wrong.
Any help in this case should be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chetan Panchal

  • The PMP5952 had been built and tested, as shown by the test data in the published test report.  But this is a reference design and not a mass produced EVM so it would not be manufactured in large quantities and readily orderable from the web.

Your board has high frequency ringing, detailed on page 29 of the UCC28610 data sheet.  I have found that a ferrite chip bead on the gate of the MOSFET and the gate turn-off resistor (as shown in figure 35a resolves the catastrophic failure.

the high frequency ringing could be from stray inductance or variations in the MOSFET, either way, a ferrite bead on the GATE is highly recommended.
