I have an external power supply with 5.8V and I'd like to connect it to the Vin and VCC.

boost conversion is done from a different 44V voltage

does the chip operate normally ?

Hello,

You could connect your 5.8V supply to Vin of the IC and it should be fine. But Vcc on this device is not an input and should not be pulled to any rail. It needs a bypass cap with value between 0.47µF and 4.7µF.
