Location of RFBT connection on LMZ12003EXT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ12003EXT

Hi,

I am wondering if it is acceptable to have the RFBT resistor connect to Vout near the load, rather than near pin 7, to account for voltage drop between the regulator and the load.

In particular I have a current sense resistor of 10 milli-ohms between the LMZ12003EXT and the load, and while the voltage drop across that should be acceptable, I would prefer to have the voltage regulated at the load.

  • Mike,

I understand your concern. To sense voltage at the load, it is recommended to physically place the RFBT near the IC pin, but route the VOUT sensing trace all the way to the load, through a quiet path, preferrably on the other side of a shielding layer.

If the RFBT is placed near the load, the FB signal has to be routed back to the IC pin through a long trace. Since the FB node is a high impedance node, it is more sensitive to noise. The Vout node is a low impedance node, so it is more immune to noise.

    See the illustration below.

    Regards,

    Yang
