bq27531EVM + EV2300, resets Cycle count to 0 and other problems

Hi, Team!

I am using bq27531EVM + EV2300 + Gauge studio 1.4.1, Win7 x64. Battary - 1sell Soshine 18650 2800mAh.

1. In http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluua96/sluua96.pdf : "The gauge maintains a separate cycle count for both cell profiles and resets to 0 if the insertion of a new pack is detected. "

But, when I change battary pack, there is no reset to 0 of Cycle count register, it retains its value without change.

Is this normally? Or I should manualy write to Cycle count :=0 ?

2. Gauge studio 1.4.1, submenu "Calibration"/Actions - Internal temperature / External temperature / Pack Voltage... When I push "External temperature" or "Pack Voltage" etc, there is no any change, so i can't make calibration. (In bq Evaluation software calibraton worked normally).

Is this normally?

BR,

Sergey

  • Hi Sergey,

    1. The gauge can choose between old and new cells or two different cell types. The gauge actually requires a Qmax measurement or Ra grid point measurement after the pack is inserted. This allows the gauge to determine between an old and new cell. Based on this, the gauge will choose either the default settings for the current profile or the learned settings. There are MAC commands (undocumented in the TRM for some reason) that choose between profile A and profile B. Command 0x18 sent to address 0x00 will choose profile A. Command 0x19 will choose profile B. The Application Status register will show which profile is selected.

     2. This may be a bug in Gauge Studio. Unfortunately, this tool isn't being updated anymore, so if EVSW works I suggest continuing to use that.
