Hi,
I'm trying to understand the difference between LM2642 and LM5642/LM5642X:
* Switching frequency (300kHz vs. 200kHz vs. 375 kHz)
* Vin voltage range
* Duty cycle range
* LM2642 has PGOOD at the pin where LM5642 has SYNC. If these features are irrelevant to the design, the parts are in effect pin compatible.
On their product web page, LM2642 is claimed to have a 6A maximum load current per channel while LM5642 has 20A, but I don't understand what this distinction is based on. I know that there are commercial design using LM2642 to deliver much more than 6A per channel.
Could someone please explain the reason why LM2642 shouldn't be used for a 20A + 20A design? Is there any significant difference between these parts that make LM5642/LM5642X inherently better than LM2642 or should I see them as three parts that each target a certain switching frequency?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Niclas
