Trying to use the TI USB Interface Adapter to program a TPS40425. Downloaded and unzipped the software from http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sllc288 into a directory at C:\TI. Running Win 7 SP1. Can launch the USB SAA GUI.exe file, but the GUI is not able to see the Adapter. The Adapter shows a green LED by the USB connector, which indicates it is powered and enumerated on USB. However, the GUI shows "Adapter not attached" in the lower left corner of the window, and attempting to set the pull-up resistor value within the Adapter gives a pop-up message "Error setting resistor value". Clicking the Help>About gives a pop-up which reads "USB Interface Adapter GUI / USB Firmware Version: Adapter not attached / GUI Version: 1.10 / Build Date: 5-OCT-06". Attempting any device access gives an ACK/NACK response of "ERROR".
Also tried the PMBusDebug.exe GUI and got similar results. Clicking the Refresh button gives pop-up of "Error on receiving PMBus Control Value", though no obvious "Adapter not attached" message.
In both of the above cases, I get the exact same results with the Adapter plugged into the PC and connected to the UUT's SMBus, or with the Adapter plugged into the PC but not connected to the UUT, or with the Adapter removed from the PC. So it seems that the GUI is not communicating over USB to the Adapter.
Tried three different PCs (all Win 7 SP1), and all USB ports of all PCs. Tried two different Adapters and cables.
Do I need to copy the .dll files to some specific place? I tried copying them to C:\Windows\System32\ (where many other .dlls live) and rebooting, but didn't help.
The Adapter is seen by the OS as a HID device (appears in Devices and Printers as "USB Input Device" with a driver of "HID-compliant device, Microsoft version 6.1.7601.22374, dated 6/21/2006"
Any help? I suspect it's something simple, but no clue what. I did not have any "install" files for this, just the link to the zip files above.
