Using the LM3524 to generate high voltage

I have a circuit based on the LM3524 that generates a 250V output. The output current requirement is basically just enough to power the feedback circuit as the circuit is just used to generate an E field to capture ions.

I am currently working on a redesign to increase the output voltage to 750V. Looking at the transistors at these voltages, I see that both bipolar and FET are available. Any comment as to which is better and how it might affect the diagram as shown in Figure 18 of the data sheet?

It seems that regardless of the choice, the form factor will bee a TO-220 or similar because of the voltages.

Thanks
