UCC28711 Vs UCC28740 which one to choose ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28711, UCC28740, PMP10397

Hi,

       I asking the community to choose b/w UCC28711 vs UCC28740. Here is my parameters

Vin = 100v to 500v ( Solar Application, voltage varies)

Output= 24v, 0.5 amps and 15v, 0.6 amps

Topology= Flyback

The difference I got is that UCC28740 has opto feedback additional to UCC28711. What I liked about UCC28711 is that it has good reference design for 400-1000V input power supply.

Anybody can shed some light on choosing between these two ?

  • The UCC28740 is more suitable for your application since the opto feedback is more suitable for a multi output flyback topology.
    PSR type controllers rely on the shape of the auxiliary voltage waveform to determine when the secondary has ceased to conduct and there may be cross regulation issues involved when one secondary continues to conduct as the other ceases. In short the UCC28740 will always regulate the output that is connected to the opto.
    If you want a higher input range (up to 825Vac)then you should consider the PMP10397 or
    www.ti.com/.../tidu412a.pdf
    which has a 1200Vdc input.
  • John,

                Thanks for replying.  In your second example, , this uses UCC28711. So, again I'm back to square one. Should I go with UCC28711 or UCC28740 ?

    Thanks,

    Amruth
