Hello,

I am looking for some help on charging a LI-PO battery from a powercast RF to DC converter. The engineers at Powercast usually use the MSP430 and I am not sure how to set this up. I was also looking at the BQ25504, but I dont have much experience with either of these. Can someone help with some instructions, or a thread where this type of charger that would work for me has already been setup? Thanks!

The BQ25504 is bust charger that boosts up low voltage from input source to higher voltage to charge up a storage element. We do not provide energy harvesting transducers. You can use the bq25504EVM, bq25505EVM or bq25570EVM to evaluate with your energy harvester. Below are some of the energy harvesting related TI reference deesign.

Thank you for the response. I have the transducer module. I am using powercast P2110B receiver. I am able to get 3-5V power, max 50mA. My goal is to charge a lipo or lion battery. I need help with the MCU controls. If the BQ25504 is a booster, then I may not need that right? Just the MSP430..I am looking for a schematic or wiring diagram and the necessary code if needed, to feed my lipo battery to charge, and shutoff when complete, and be able to discharge. Like a regular charger.. Any suggestions for MSP430 setup I could use, given the voltage parameters? Thanks again in advance

You will need a boost charger to boost up 3V to charge up a battery. The bq255xx has user programmable voltage thrsholds for battery charging. You can find more details about the part in the product datasheet. For questions regarding on MSP430, please post on the MSP430 Forum.
