"Topology" in the parametrics table for various PWM controllers - some variants are missing topologies?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC1842, UC3842, UC2842

Hi,

Im searching for a PWM controller for use with a buck converter. I looked at various classics, e.g. the UC3842. When looking at the Parametrics table on the component page, you see the UC3842 can be used for boost, buck, flyback and forward converter toplogies. But when looking at the UC1842 and UC2842, which are compared to UC3842 in said table, they do not have the buck toplogy listed. Why is that? There are a few differences(e.g. temperature range and reference stability), but what specifically disqualifies the UC1842 and UC2842 from being used as a controller in a buck? Is it just a case of missing info in the parametrics table, or is there something that I am missing? I have read the datasheet, but see no indications that should prevent any of the mentioned devices from being used as a buck controller.

I have noticed this to be the case for other devices, e.g. the UCC380x series, but again, the datasheets reveal nothing about why one would be unable to be employed as controller in a buck converter.

Thank you for your time,

Peter C.
