TPS54140 as replacement for TPS54040?

Hi,

I have a design that uses the TPS54040, peak power output is about 350mA and the design currently is working well.  I'm having trouble sourcing the TPS54040 parts, but can get the TPS54140.  I see that the power rating for the TPS54140 is 1.5A, can this be used as a drop-in replacement in my application?  I don't see any other specification changes that would lead me to believe that it won't just work fine.

    Yes, the TPS54140 is pin to pin compatible with the TPS54040.  There is one difference that will affect your circuit--the "comp to switch transconductance" is different for the 2 parts.  What this means is that your control loop response will change.  I would recalculate your loop gain with the different transconductance and see if the circuit is still stable with enough phase margin to satisfy your requirement.

    A better cross (with the same value for that parameter) is the TPS54060.
