TPS54140 as replacement for TPS54040?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54140, TPS54040, TPS54060

Hi,

I have a design that uses the TPS54040, peak power output is about 350mA and the design currently is working well.  I'm having trouble sourcing the TPS54040 parts, but can get the TPS54140.  I see that the power rating for the TPS54140 is 1.5A, can this be used as a drop-in replacement in my application?  I don't see any other specification changes that would lead me to believe that it won't just work fine.

Thanks!

  • Yes, the TPS54140 is pin to pin compatible with the TPS54040.  There is one difference that will affect your circuit--the "comp to switch transconductance" is different for the 2 parts.  What this means is that your control loop response will change.  I would recalculate your loop gain with the different transconductance and see if the circuit is still stable with enough phase margin to satisfy your requirement.

A better cross (with the same value for that parameter) is the TPS54060.
