Checking for UCD9240 & PTD08A010W power module

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTD08A010W, UCD9240

Dear Sir,

I have a trouble to use the power module PTD08A010W that is controlled by UCD9240.

I've tried to make a PCB board with a power circuit as below.  It refers to a Xilinx SP605

demo board.

I, however, can not get any output voltage at the output of PTD08A010W.

I've tried to measure the circuit.  I can get a result as below.

1. TI_V3P3 : 3.4V

2. V33FB : 4.04V

3. Vin : 2.02 V

4. VCC12_P : 12V

5. PWM, SRE, FAULT : 0

6. INH : 3.4V

7. PTD08A010W output pin 4 : 0V

Can you tell me a detail checking step to know why it doesn't work?  Should I do anything on the PMBUS?

In addition, I've one question about the TRST, In spec, it recommend to connect it to ground with 10K ohm.  But our reference is connected it to TI_V3p3.

Thank you.

Peter Chang

  • TRST should be pull to ground through 10k ohm.

Did you import project file into UCD9240? If so, in the project file, if the rail's On/Off Config is CONTROL Pin Only, the PMBus CONTROL pin must be asserted to turn on the rail. You can also set it to Always Converting, then the rail will automatically start.

If the rail still does not start, connect UCD9240 to Fusion GUI. In the Monitor page, you can see if there is any fault occurred, such as Low Vin, OV, OC, etc. You can capture waveforms of switching node and output voltage, and find out what happened.

  • Hi Zhiyuan,

Do you mean I must import project file into UCD9240? Otherwise, it won't be started?
What is the project file? How to import? And where I can find Fusion GUI? Thanks.

  • Hi Zhiyuan,

Thanks for your answer. Do you mean that it won't work, if I don't import the project file?
I've tried to find the information on TI web site.

    D:\Fusion Digital Power Designer\doc\help-center\Fusion GUI-Overview.pdf

Suppose, the web site is what you recommend.

Do you think the TRST will affect the result too?
    Thanks.

  • Hi Peter,

The UCD9240 device has no configuration out of factory. User must program configuration into the device. If you are using the exactly the same design as EVM (same inductance, same output capacitance, same sequence), you can use the project file provided along with the EVM.

Please refer to UCD9240 documents on this page:

  • Hi Zhiyuan,

Thanks for your information.  Let me try.  And tell you the result after.

I've tried to study the tool.  Getting familiar with it.  Many thanks.

  • Hi Zhiyuan,

After getting a USB to GPIO cable, I've tried to write configuration data into the flash as the attached file.

It seems successfully programmed.  But I can get any voltage on the Vout.

I don't know why?  How to check?  Thank you in advance.

One more information as below about the system settings.

Have I turned both chip on?
