TPS54426,TPS54226/about VREG5

Hi,

Could you tell me about VREG5 in Vin=5V condition.
I got the following question from a customer.

1.The voltage of VREG5 in Vin=5V condition.
(Please tell me about a state of VREG5 in detail)
2.Disadvantages to be used in the conditions of Vin=5V.
(Please tell me about the need for circuit change and likely to become unstable internal circuit.)

Could you tell me for your advice?

Best Regards,
Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • There is an internal LDO that generates VREG5 from Vin.  So for Vin = 5 V, the VREG5 input will be a couple hundred mV below that.  The internal UVLO works off the VREG5 output, rather than the Vin input.  So long as VREG5 is above 3.8 V typical, 4.1 V maximum, the TPS54x26 will operate normally.  The main downside is slightly lower gate drive capability as the low side gate driver and high side BST circuit operate from VREG5.  It is perfectly acceptable to operate with 5 V input.
