PoE, General Market Trends

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2375, TPS23753A, LM5070, TPS23757, TPS23861, TPS23750, TPS2376-H, TPS2379, TPS2378, TPS23754, TPS23751, TPS23785B

Hi Team,

I have a few questions regarding the PoE chipset trends.  Nothing manufacturer specific, only general.

1.)  What is the 2015 mix of PoE chipsets by technology:  802.af(PoE), 802.3at(PoE+), LTPoE++?

2.)  How does this mix compare to historical trends?

3.) What does future (5-years, 10-years) mix look like?

Thank you,

Mauricio Solis

  • Hi Mauricio,

    Here's my comment:

    Current solutions for 802.af(PoE), 802.3at(PoE+), LTPoE++:

    802.af: PSE: TPS23861 PD:Front End only:LM5073,TPS2376-H,TPS2375/7-1,TPS2375/7; Front End+DCDC:TPS23757,TPS23753A,TPS23750/70,LM5070/1

    802.at: PSE:TPS23861 PD: Front End only:TPS2379,TPS2378; Front End+DCDC:TPS23751,TPS23785B,TPS23754/6

    High Power Solution:

    Forced PoE: PSE:TPS23861 PD:TPS2378

    LLDP: PSE:TPS23861 PD: TPS2379

The trend of PoE is that the power level would become higher. The new  .bt standard will come out in 2017 and the power can go as high as 90W. TI has been involved very much in the new standard discussion. We have a road map for the new .bt solution. Please feel free to send me email for further discussion. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny

  • This is interesting but there's no information on adoption rates.  I was looking for something like the following with PoE chipset shipments by year (the % are fictious):

    PoE standard

    2015

    2016

    2018

    2020

    2025

    802.3af

    70%

    50%

    40%

    30%

    20%

    802.3at

    30%

    50%

    55%

    60%

    60%

    802.3bt

    0%

    0%

    5%

    10%

    20%

Numbers could be actual shipments or % of mix.  Doesn’t need to be too precise.  Just enough granularity to understand what PoE technology we should incorporate into future products.

  • Hi Adam,

Can I have your email address and we can talk about this in emails?
