LP3891 EN Pin

Hi.

I would like to know about the voltage range on the EN pin for the LP3891.  I would like to be able to apply a "high" level greater than VIN to the EN pin to enable the part, but the data sheet is not clear on whether I can do this or not.  At first guess, you might say "NO", but I ask the question because on a very similar part (the LP3892), there is a xSHDN pin (same function as the LP3891 EN pin), and the LP3892 data sheet clearly states "The xSHDN pin may exceed VIN but not the maximum of 6.5 V".  I see no statement like this in the LP3981 data sheet, but I would like to know if this works the same for the LP3981 as I would prefer to use the LP3981.

    Yes, that is OK.

    In the LP3891 data sheet 'RECOMMENDED OPERATING CONDITIONS' the Shutdown pin voltage range (0 to +6V) does not list any dependency, or limitation, due to Vin value. This is the same operating range that is called out for the LP3892.

    I'm not seeing that statement in the LP3892 datasheet.

    Hi Donald.  Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately I made a little (well actually big) mistake.  I had a typo in my message title, and somewhat throughout my question.

    My original question was ment to be about the LP3981 (not the LP3891).  I guess TI has too many similar part numbers.  I will try to ask my question again with the correct part number this time :)
