Because of the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., TI E2E™ design support forum responses may be delayed from November 25 through December 2. Thank you for your patience.

DCP021212 use in a special BMS design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCP021212

I need to isolate three ground planes for three BMS ICs to monitor/active balance 18 cells.  Vsup for the BMS IC needs to be 6-32V.  The BMS does not draw power from the battery, a very important issue.  The BMS IC is a AS8506C.

This is a special University student project that deals with N-cell serial battery blocks connected in parallel.  There are front-end PCBs that reside with each N-cell block.  The BMS switches between the different N-cell blocks checking for individual cell balance.  This specifically is a project that overcomes the issues with monitoring parallel cell blocks and not being able to define which specific cell in the parallel block is defective.  The Isup is typically less than 40ma.  All the SPI and other control signals are optically isolated between the ground planes.

Who at TI do I need to contact for five samples of the DCP021212 in SOP form?  I ask this because the data sheet only says to 'contact TI' and the support number person said I had to go to the e2e forum.  If a particular technical person/engineer at TI would like to contact me by phone, please indicate so by email.  Thank you for responding.

  • The DCP021212U is a SMD DC converter.

You can order free samples from Ti if you  have a corporate. com  domain . The TI  link to TI DCP021212U is:

    1. Question and response below on sample request from a University student is:

I am a university student. Why can’t I order free IC samples?

Due to the high cost of a sample program like TI's, we require complete contact information using a corporate (.com) email domain as well as full shipping information. At Texas Instruments we have a very deep commitment to investing in university programs that span, recruiting, helping professors develop coursework, literature, design contests and many other activities. For student projects, we suggest purchasing devices from the TI store or any of Texas Instruments authorized distributors. The TI store can sell you as few as 1 unit for your project and most orders ship same day
