UCC27519 Jitter??

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27519

Hi,

I will use the UCC27519 to drive a piezo. The application is a time of flight measurement in order to determine the velocity of sound in liquids. In our case the jitter determine the accuracy of the measurement. In the datasheet of the UCC27519 the jitter is not specified. Is it possible to estimate the Jitter of the UCC27519?

Thanks for your help!

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel
I don't have any information on the jitter of this driver output. The propagation delays are of the order of 20ns, so on a given device I would not expect this to vary by more than about ±10%. This would imply that your drive source would need to be stable to within 2ns and that other sources of variation didn't creep into the equation. I would carefully design the VCC rail to keep a steady VCC voltage. You will also have to be careful with the PCB layout to avoid reflections and ringing in the waveform delivered to the Piezo.
If you need to quantify the jitter in a given device then I can only suggest that you build a suitable test rig and measure it. Device to device variations may mean that you will have to calibrate the system.

  • Hi Daniel,

I agree with Colin. Driver IC itself do not have any jitter. The output is as stable as input and VCC. As Colin mentioned, the output is delayed by propagation delay and rise and fall time will depend on the load. One has to be careful in layout, frequency selection, and impedance matching.

Please let us know if you need more information.
