BQ26100 SDQ bus range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQ26100

I have a customer in Florida that designs tactical power systems.  Virideon currently uses a BQ34z100 for gauging.  Their current design is to build a “smart” cable and modular adapter that can authenticate a device that is some (customer has not defined a clear distance) from a controller that is generating the authentication code that will be transmitted to the requesting device.  The engineer would like to know if there is a maximum transmit distance on the BQ26100 SDQ bus.  The engineer says he has seen 1-wire to I2C extenders with a range of 100m.  He would like to know if the SDQ bus has such a range or how it can be extended?

Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything clarified.  Customers EAU for this “Smart Cable” design is 500-1000 with initial production starting in Q3 hopefully.

  • SDQ is a open drain line, so the length of the line depends on the capacitance of the line and the pull-up value. Meeting the timing of the SDQ would be the criteria when designing/determining the length of the cable.

    Hope this helps.
