LM117HVHRLQMLV Input-Output Voltage Rating

If the input-output voltage rating of 60V was exceeded by 200mV for up to 10usec for this device due to a transient on the input, would this be expected to cause damage?  For reference, the nominal current is 22mA, the input voltage is 38Vdc, and the output voltage is 15Vdc.

    The exact implications of that operational mode are outside of the scope of product definition and testing. As it is detailed in the foot note below the Absolute Maximum table in the device:

    Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings
    only, which do not imply functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended
    Operating Conditions. Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

    The fact that it is not above the absolute max for long and if it is a very rare event there is a chance that you will never see a problem.
    That being said I would recommend looking at a part that can support all of your operational cases including such transients.

    One solution that you could employ is to place a diode in front of the LDO. This would provide a suffcient voltage drop in front of the device to bring the solution within the absolute maximum spec.

    Is the QML (Space Grade) certification necessary or are you able to use a part will a lower qualification? I ask because the LM117HV -QML is the highest voltage LDO we currently have. If you can use an EP rated part I would recommend looking at the TPS7A4001-EP.
