In UCC29950EVM-631 300-W PFC/LLC Off-Line PSU why UCC27511 and UCC27714 used ? Can we use UCC29950 for pfc and llc converter? What all will be problem using in basic way.

Hi Rohith,

It is possible to use the UCC29950 without the UCC27511 for a 300W application. It is also possible to replace the UCC27714 high voltage bridge driver with a gate drive transformer directly driven by the UCC29950 controller.

Hi Peter,

Thanks . Why do we need a gate drive transformer ? How to choose gate drive transformer? I'm trying to reduce the component to make the board more compact.

Hi Rohith,

To drive a the high side mosfet in a half bridge topology you must use either a gate drive transformer or a high voltage gate drive IC with bootstrap circuit.

The physical size of the gate drive transfomer depends on the lowest switching frequency and the voltage amplitude of the gate drive signal.
