Current Taper Threshold in bq2060

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2060

How is the value for Current Taper Threshold at EEPROM location 0x4e set?  The value and units aren’t well documented in the datasheet.

 How does the programmed value 0x12 convert to 200 mA?

Is the value fixed or does the gas gauge update it?  I looked at a few packs and the value varies.

I’m working with my customer to investigate a compatibility issue with a newer gas gauge.  I’m trying to figure out how their legacy design using a bq2060 gauge worked.

  • Hi! Try use this formula (see attach)

  • Thanks!

    They don't include a schematic, so the sense resistor value is unknown.  30mohms makes the formula work out for the numbers in the table above.

    Seems like the value should be fixed, but I looked at a few packs and the value varies.  Does the gas gauge update it?

    why? for example from datasheet for bq2060:

    Taper = (Rs x I) / 0.5025

    I = (Taper x 0.5025) / Rs - you Rs=0.03 Ohm, Taper (from datasheet) 0x12 = 18 (dec). You taper current I=300mA

    I don't know for LioN chemistry. For bq2060 in my homemade ARM system I use NiMH accums and value in #4e and #4f fixed all time..
