Hello,

I've a question about the timer charge protection on the TPS65010. the charge time is between 4h10 and 6 h  we are using a battery of 2100mAh. if we charge with USB at 100mA  it will be impossible to charge complety the battery ? I'm right.

In the datatsheet it is not very clear. how work exactly this protection.

    The TPS65010 datasheet has a paragraph called Battery Voltage Regulation that provided a good explanation of the Fast-Charge Timer, t(chg), functionality.  If the battery current does not drop below the taper current, I(taper), within 4h10 to 6h after starting the fast charge mode, the charge timer times out and reports a fault.  Fast charge mode is the constant current charge mode as shown in figure 27.  Note that the Fast-Charge Timer is disabled by default.  You can change this setting in the CHGCONFIG register, bit B5.  Because the timer is disabled by default, you can charge the battery as slowly as you wish.  In general, I suggest you use the safety features of the IC when possible to detect battery faults.

    Thank you for this explanation it is very helpful, I didn't read well this paragraph. For our design the battery is a 2100mAh and we are charging at 400mA this mean where are not in fast charge and we didn't need to use this time protection ? I'm write.

    Fast charge mode is the constant current charging mode.  You should be operating in fast charge mode during the battery charge cycle.  The IC does not require that you use the timer fault protection functionality.  The protection is built into the charger so you can charge your battery without the system being on to mointor the charge cycle.
