Doubt regarding learning cycle of bq34z100-g1

Hi TI team,

We are using Exide 12V 7Ah battery in our application. After making sure that battery is in rest mode for long enough we have given IT_Enable command.Immediately learned and update status changed to 04 and also VOK and QEN are set.  So started charging battery to it's charge termination voltage 14.7V during which VOK  and RUP_DIS are cleared. After attaing charge termination voltage and current being reached below taper current and above quit current stooped charging the battery where OCVTAKEN is set and FIRSTDOD are cleared. But VOK is not yet set again and also no updation in Learned,Update and Max Error values.Could you please suggest when to start discharging phase of the cycle and what are parameters to be taken care for successful completion of this learning cycle to get acknowledged that Qmax and Ra tables are set correctly

  • If OCVTAKEN is set, then you can proceed with the discharge. Qmax will only update after discharge for PbA cells. It will not update after charge. You will need to do one discharge to update Qmax and then another charge and discharge to update the Ra table. Be sure to log data during the full charge, rest, discharge, rest cycles, so that we will have something to analyze if it fails to update.
  • Hi Thomas,

We connected battery for discharging and continued till Cell Terminate Voltage which is 10.5V in our case. After disconnecting the load, battery have been in rest state more than 3 hours but can't find any updation in Learned,Update and Max Error values.Even the OCVTAKEN is not cleared yet to confirm entry into Relax mode after Discharge. So,please could you verify the attached log document and suggest us accordingly.

  • Hi Thomas,

Could you please make out time to review the above attached log file and address the issue as soon as possible.

  • Hi TOM,

As suggested by the local TI support team, we are repeating the learning cycle in the above case.

Meanwhile, could you please go through the log attached and suggest  If the chem ID (0805), we selected is a correct one or not?
