TPS25921 ENUV terminal resistor removing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25921A

 Hello guys,

Our customer is considering to use TPS25921 with high volume unit.

The customer wants to reduce the number of external parts for TPS25921 as less as possible.

They don't need over voltage protection and under voltage protection.

Could you please tell me which parts can be removed in Figure 30 in the device datasheet?

Also could you tell me how to terminate each non connect pin?

 Your reply would be appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Nakai-san,

    1. Remove R1, R2, R3
    2. Connect ENUV pin directly to VIN pin
    3. Connect OVP pin to GND
    4. If fault indication is not required, connect FLT pin to GND. And R4 can be removed.

Please you provide additional details about the application.

    1. Vin min, Vinmax
    2. Type of load
    3. Minimum and maximum load current
    3. Is short circuit protection required?

    Regards,
    Venkat
  • Hi Venkata,

Thank you very much for your reply.

    I understood except No.4 answer.

Is there any problem if /FLT terminal is floating?
The customer wants to leave the terminal floating.

I answered your question as the follows.
    1. 10.8V~15.6V.
    2. solenoid valve.
    3. 0.4A~0.9A.
    4. Yes. The solenoid valve is driven by TI transistor ULN2003.
If the valve is shorted, ULN2003 is broken. The customer wants to protect ULN2003.

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Nakai-san,

No issue in floating the FLT pin. Since eFuse is driving solenoid value, I would recommend additional protections:

    1. Output schottky diode: Part number B130-13-F

    2. Input TVS diode: Part number SMAJ16A-13-F

    Regards,

    Venkat

  • Hi Venkat,

Thank you for the recommendation, DIODES TVS/schotky diode. But it is difficult for our customer to buy DIODES parts.
They can buy those parts from Japanese company, ROHM or SHIN-DENGEN.
    ROHM URL:
    www.rohm.com/.../

    SHIN-DENGEN URL:
    www.shindengen.co.jp/.../index.html

If you can find any recommended parts on those URL, could you please tell me the parts.
If not, could you please tell me which parameter we should pay attention for parts selection?

    Parameter should be paid attention
    For TVS: 1. Breakdown Voltage?
    2. Max. Peak Pulse Current?
    3. Peak Pulse Power Dissipation?

    For Schottky:
    1. Forward Voltage Drop?
    2. Average Rectified Output Current?
    3. Working Peak Reverse Voltage?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Nakai-san,

For output schottky diode you can consider RSX205L-30TE25 from Rohm Semiconductor.

For TVS: I didn't find suitable part from ROHM or SHINDENGEN.
Please give attention to the following parameters while selecting input TVS diode
    1. Minimum Breakdown Voltage >17V
    2. Maximum Breakdown Voltage <20V
    3. Max. Peak Pulse Current > 10A
    4. Peak Pulse Power Dissipation >200W

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hi Rakesh,

Thank you very much for the recommendation.

Could you please tell me your selection points when you selected RSX205L-30TE25 for our reference?

Also I checked TVS of Japanese diode parts company but I couldn't find any TVS to suit the parameters.
If the wire inductance between the power supply for solenoid valve and e-Fuse, TPS25921A is small, can the TVS parameter for selection be changed. Especially, can Max peak pulse current value or Peak pulse power dissipation be reduced?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai
  • Hi Nakai-san,

For output schottky diode, the following are selection points
Voltage - DC Reverse (Vr) (Max) >20V but 30V device is chosen as it is available in bulk production and hence relatively lower in cost
    Fast Recovery type
    Current - Average Rectified (Io) > 1A

Peak pulse power (Ppp) rating for TVS diode: In "board level" designs, it is recommended to have Ppp rating in the range 200W to 600W to protect the device from shorter-pulse width transients, ESD threats and low-level induced lightning.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
