TPS22967 SOA graph

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22967

Please let me ask about TPS22967 SOA curve in datasheet P.17.
According to this curve, is it impossible to keep 4A continuous current at over 25degC condition?
I think this device allow 4A continuous current at high temperature condition from on resistance and thermal resistance.
Please let me know if there is wrong understand about SOA curve.

Kohei Sasaki

  • Hi Kohei,

The SOA curve in the datasheet shows TI's recommendations for 70,000 hours of device lifetime.  If these curves are exceeded (higher temperature) then the device lifetime may decrease.

Device lifetime is also dependent on how long the load switch is left on.  If it is on for only 30% of the time, then it could pass 4A at about 55C without any derating from the 70,000 hours.  That being said, 4A can be passed through the device at higher temperatures (due to the thermal characteristics) without any damage occurring.

    Thanks,

    Alek Kaknevicius.
