BQ24071 Parallel usage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24071

I'm developing an energy harvesting and storage application where I am trying to apply the BQ24071 in an unorthodox way. I would like to know if it would be conceivable to share one battery between two BQ24071 so that the battery can be managed to power two separate segments in the circuit.

Any advice or feedback is appreciated.

  • The issue with using two chargers at the same time is the each of the charger is independent of each other. One does not have vision on the charge current from the other one. Thus there is a risk that the battery can be charge at the higher rate then it supposed. This can damage the battery cell.
  • What if the battery being used is an 18650 Li-ion with built in circuitry? (Would this even work with this charger?)

Alternatively, would it make sense to utilize individual cells per charger?
