TPS5450 Simple Average Model Gain

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS5430, LM22670, TPS5450

The Calculator tool allows for two load capacitors (C4 and C5) but it lists only one ESR value. I cannot have large ESR as I am supplying lower level (3.3V and 1.5V) switching regulators and other circuitry which need good decoupling. This is why I mentioned a compensation network like for TPS5430 but there is no tool that allows that (not the Calculator and definitely not WEBENCH). TINA is not that user friendly either and you said that there is no model for LM22670-ADJ.

I am considering replacing the LM22670 with TPS5450, please confirm that its simple average model has a gain of about 1850.

  • What calculator tool are you referencing? TPS5450 is internally compensated. It requires the LC double pole and ESR zero be aligned with the internal compensation poles and zeros for stability. You may possibly be able to add a feed forward capacitor across the upper feedback resistor to add a zero pole pair to get some phase boost for ceramic output capacitors. You may also want to consider prototyping your design on an EVM.
