bq27441 with bq24020 taper current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24020

What taper current I take to calculate taper rate? In the datasheet for bq24020 charger there are 2 values for the taper current, depending what USB you are using. USB500 has 50mA taper current when USB100 has only 10mA.

  • hi

with reference to figure 2 of the device datasheet, you can see that the charging process is terminated when the chargin current (in constant voltage phase) is below / reaches the taper current...
so it is your choice, based on battery, when you wish to stop charging the battery... rule of thumb is when the chargin current is below 0.1 x Ichg_nom, as you can also see on table on page 2 of the datasheet...
also please note that BQ24020 allows a taper current 10% of ISET1 Level, as for the same table mentioned above...
    hope this helped a bit

  • Ok, thanks for answer. I must ask our hardware developer then, what it is set in our case.

And another question please. If bit ISET2 is connected to the ground, can we still charge a battery with 500mA?
