BQ2002T and BQ24401 Operation Topology

Hi TI Experts:

For NiMH battery charger, BQ2002T and BQ24401 for multiple cells charging, does it has the Power Management Path??

I read through some products for Li-Ion, example the BQ24230, it has the power management feature.

(priority will be given to AC adaptor to supply to load when it present, else it will use the battery to supply the load)

The project will be using 3 NiMH is series to achieve 3.6V output voltage.

Thus, I have some inquiries for BQ2002T and BQ24401:

1)  Will the IC will direct supply to the system load and the battery will start discharge when there’s no VCC supply to the ICs

2)  Or once the battery is fully charge, both IC will not direct supply to the system load but instaed of the battery and till the battery is fully discharge, both IC              will recharge the battery again and the cycle will repeat again?

Please advice.

    bq2002T and bq24401 doesn't have power path control.

    You have to add the extra power path control circuit to directly supply to the system load and the battery will start discharge when there’s no VCC supply to the ICs or other power path control.

    Thanks for the answer.

    By the way, for BQ2002T and BQ24401, from the datasheet, the Vcc operating voltage is 4V(min) to 6V(max).

    I will only connect 3 NiMH in series.
    With 1.2V nominal voltage for each NiMH, it will be 3.6V.

    Can BQ2000T or BQ24401 function in this condition?
    Or should i use a boost converter to make it above 4V?

    In general, we don't need to power up bq2000T or bq24401 with battery only. When the input is avaialbe, we can power up bq2000T and bq24401 to support charging.

    So, with battery only, what function do you need from bq2000T or bq24401?
