Can not import PMP7668 Design Files

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP7668

I have Altium Designer which can not import PMP7668 Design Files.  The schematic has .sch extension and PCB layout .pcb however, none of the Altium importers recognize either file.  What importer do I need to import these two files?

Thank you,

Silvo

  • Hi Silvo,

I can see that the representation of the layout is provided in Gerber format. As you have Altium you can import these files into a CAM document.
Please let me know if you need anymore help.
    Best regards,

  • Thank you Brian,

I want to open .pcb and .sch files provided as you can see on the web page under "Design Files" and then click on "Download Design Files" and select "PMP7668 Design Files".  I even downloaded the recommended viewer, and it can't open the files.  I would like to start with accurate schematic and PCB layout in  Altium environment that I can modify and then add my project to it.  I did not have this type of problem with the previous downloads from TI Design Kits.

    Thanks,

    Silvo

  • Hi Silvo,

I've asked the design engineer to confirm the validity of the files and I'll let you know the result.

    Thank you for your patience.

  • Hello Silvo,

A look at the schematic diagram suggests to me that this pcb design was done using PADS software, from Mentor Graphics, which uses the .sch and .pcb suffixes. TI had used PADS in the past but transitioned to Altium a few years ago. Apparently this design was done before the transition was complete. Please see the Mentor Graphics website for a Viewer for PADS files.

A brief search tells me that Altium does not import PADS binary files directly, but can import PADS files that have been converted to ACSII. I did not research this thoroughly and maybe things have changed recently. I suggest to check each website to see what conversion options are available, or maybe some 3rd-party software can convert PADS files to ACSII.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
  • Hello Ulrich,

This solves the problem.  I happen to have old version of PADS but not installed on my machine.  I do thank you very much for taking your time to help me.
