TPS544B20 -- no PMBus use case

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS544B20

Team,

Our customer is considering TPS544B20 due to D-Capx and high output current, however they don't want to use PMBus interface.

The DS describes about "Default" setting, but I cannot find out any comment in it regarding no PMBus use case.

Could you please give any information that whether the device can use without PMBus interface.

If it can be done, how should we address both pins; CLK and DATA ?

<<Customer's Spec>>

Vin = 15V

Vo = 0.9V

Io = 20A

So they don't want to use neither voltage mode devices (due to load transient response) nor TPS548D2x (due to its 16Vim max limitation)...

よろしくお願いします。

Thanks and Regards,

  • The device can be used in non-PMBUS application.

    The CLK, DATA, SMBALERT pins can be left floating if PMBUS communication is not needed. For the CNTL pin, a logic signal is required to control the ON/OFF of the converter.

    Without PMBUS support, if customer need to modify OCP/OVP threshold, soft start time, UVLO threshold  and other configurable parameters, pre-programming need be included for mass production.

    Without pre-programming, all the configurable parameters would be the default value, which can be found in  section 8.5 of the datasheet.

    Because the default setting for ON_OFF_CONFIG is "CNTL only. Active High.", without modification on this register, CNTL pin must be connected to a logic IO port.

    Thanks.
