TPS62180 - Running devices in parallel?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62180, LP8754, LP8758-B0, UCC39002

Hello E2E,

I have a customer who is wondering if it is possible to run 2 or more of the TPS62180 in parallel.  If so, what special considerations need to be taken into account?

He has the same question on the LP8754 and LP8758-B0.

Thanks!

Russell

  • I do not support any of those parts directly. I do not see any way to directly operateTPS62180 in parallel. Lately I have been suggesting to use a current share controller such as UCC39002 for current share applications. It should work with TPS62180.

LP8754 and LP8758-B0 are already multi-phase topologies. You should be able to parallel the individual outputs in interleaved multi-phase. Not sure if you can get 8 and 12 channel interleaved with them. That would be a question for that support team.
  • Please begin the title of your post with the part numbers.

No, TPS6218x cannot be paralleled. The hiccup current limit prevents this, among other items.
