400W AC to DC Isolated Power Design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5630B

I need to design 400W AC to DC Isolated Power supply for Class D Audio Power Amplifier. The TAS5630B class D TI chip is using. Is it advice able to use switching power supply for Audio amplifier application. It will affect the audio output performance due to harmonics? or we shall go with stepdown transformer power supply.

Kindly share the 400W Power Supply reference design for below mentioned voltage range.

Vin - 85 to 250V 50/60Hz

Vout - 35V DC

Iout - 12A

  • Hello Prasaath,

I have notified a member of the Audio Amplifiers Forum of your question, where I believe this issue can be more properly addressed.
Although this forum deals with isolated power supply controller ICs in general, the audio forum has a better idea of the specific characteristics of the type of supply you need.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
  • Hi Ulrich,

Please provide the 400W isolated power supply design with above mentioned requirement.

  • Hello Prasaath,

Please check out these two reference designs on the TI website: PMP5500 and PMP9531. PMP5500 is a 400W power supply design with 40V at 10A output. PMP9531 is a 350W design with 28V at 12.5A. These do not match your requirements exactly, but the designs can be used as examples for what is necessary at your voltage and current levels, and you can modify the details to match your requirements.

As I mentioned in my previous reply, I believe the Audio Amplifier Forum has experts who can provide better advice and information about the proper characteristics of a power supply for an audio amplifier application, and I hope that someone from that forum will also address your question.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
