TPS650830: kaby lake

Part Number: TPS650830
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650832, TPS62134B, TPS62134A

Hi,

I'm going to use TPS65083x for Intel Kaby Lake - U platform.

Is this application suitable for TPS65083x and which one me to use - TPS650830/1/2?

  • Hi Anna Lindt,

The TPS65832 and TPS65830 would both be suitable for the Kaby Lake - U platform. The main difference you see between them is the implementation of the split rails. For the TPS650830 you can merge VCCIO and VO.85A with VCC EDRAM, VCC EOPIO, and V1.00A on the same rail. This solution is cost effective and saves you space. However, with the TPS650832 you achieve better system efficiency by implementing split rails so you would no longer merge VCCIO and VO.85A with VCC EDRAM, VCC EOPIO, and V1.00A. You would need to implement those rails discretely, 0.975V to run VCCIO and 0.85V to run V0.85A.

  • Thank you, Ray
    A little more clarifications:
    1) Does Intel support both these configurations?
    2) As I understand, TPS650832 is only configuration and not a different IC?
    3) Do you have a recommendation/design example for TPS650832 implementation? Including TI possible solutions for VCCIO and V0.85V.

    Regards,
    Anna
  • Hi Anna,

Intel does support both of these configurations. Correct as you stated, the TPS650832is only a configuration and it is not a different IC. With the split rails approach you can use the TPS62134A to support VCCIO and the TPS62134B to support B0.85A. Lets take this discussion offline.
