BQ2000EVM: charging 3 NiMH batteries cuts off too soon

Part Number: BQ2000EVM

For a 3 cell NiMH battery I set J5 to be a 374k resistor and powered the circuit with a 6 volt power supply.

Charging seems to cut off at about 1v per cell leaving the batteries mostly empty.

I need to power this chip with 6 volts,  and I would like to get the pack up to 4.2 volts.   Is there something else I need to do to the bq2000evm module to make this work?

  • It is specified in the bq2000EVM that the input voltage of the board need to be 10 to 25V. If you only apply 6V at the input, D7 cannot be turned on. Please try with D7 shorted. Note when D7 is removed, the IC can be potentially damaged by any voltage spike higher than the pin rating.
  • Thankyou, I put a 150 ohm resistor in place of D7 and I see proper charging voltage now. This points me in the right direction!
