BQ24190: Fast Charge using BQ24190 and standard Qualcomm power adapters

I understand from the datasheet that the BQ24190 can provide up to 4.5A of charge current through the use of a high voltage adapter.

What I have not been able to clarify my customer is how to use the device with a standard dual voltage phone charger, such as qualcomm/samsnung models, in which the default output voltage is 5V, but upon negotiation, the device raises the output voltage to 9V.

Is there an aditional device to perform this autentication or perhaps a different controller that supports it?

Hello Carlos,

The bq24190's D+/D- detection covers only detection for SDP, DCP/CDP adapters. Detection for HVDCP (adjustable voltage adapters) was added on the bq25890. The bq25890H allows the extra handshaking step to negotiate higher voltages with such adapters.

Please review the bq25890 device, as well as the bq25890H. The latter includes a programmable D+/D- driver that allows the host to emulate various handshaking protocols available . We have an application note that discusses this in more detail.
