PTH08T240W: PTH08T240W parallel power supply operation

Team,

My customer is leveraging an old design that uses PTH08T240W circuitry that he cannot change.

He wants to use a second power supply in parallel and disable PTHxxx with INH/UVLO pin and then apply the second supply to the same output. The output pins of both supplies are tied together.

The concern is if the second supply being applied to PTH08T240W output (but going to the load) while PTHxx INH/UVLO pin is tied low will cause any undesirable results.

Do you have any concerns with this approach?

PTH08T240 is not designed or will function when used as a current sharing component.

LMZ31520 , 20 Amp solution could be used in this application.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the help. Yes I proposed that device to my customer but unfortunately they cannot change out the PTH08T240W supply.

My question is not specifically around current sharing, but if the PTH08T240W will be damaged by another supply driving its load when PTH08T240W is disabled.

Only one supply would be on at a time so there would be no current sharing.
