BQ24630EVM: How can I test 10A charging current?

Part Number: BQ24630EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD18514Q5A

Hello,

Can I test 10A charging current with BQ24630EVM?

If not, how can I test it?

What can I modify EVM to make to test 10A charging current?

Which components must be changed?

Could you check and let me know how I can test 10A charging current with BQ24630EVM?

Regards

Nicky

  • Hi Nicky,

I believe you can try, but as you mention, you would need to change a few components and make a board modification. Although if you do make the modifications for the components and the board to work at 10A, you may want to design your own layout with a FET footprint with thermal pad that has better heat dissipation.

For >5A, you would need to change the FETs to ones that have a thermal pad beneath to help with the heat dissipation. For this component change, you would have to scratch the surface right under the FETs on the drain side so that the thermal pad can be soldered down. Be careful not to scratch the source side, which will short the FET and not work.

In any case, here is a list of component changes so that you can use our EVM:
    1. Add 10uF/50V 1812 to C25 and C27
    2. IHLP5050FDER4R7M01 on L1
    3. Si7463ADP on Q1, Q2 and Q5
    4. csd18514q5a on Q3 and Q4
    5. Change resistors on R25 and R28 according to battery regulation
    6. Change ACSET to 10A
    7. Change ISET1 and ISET2 resistor dividers according to battery

Let me know if you need any more info.
