TPS62400-Q1: Maximum Load Capacitance

Part Number: TPS62400-Q1

Hi There,

For the TPS62400-Q1 what is the maximum (low ESR, ceramic) capacitance that can be placed on output 1 of a TPS62400-Q1, when it’s set to 1.2 V and has a 2.2 uH inductor?

Does it matter if it is set for permanent PWM or if it’s allowed to go to PFM mode?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Ross

  • This is shown in the D/S at the bottom of pages 24 and 25. This IC uses voltage mode control, which has a small range of allowed Cout.

With the very low currents supported by this IC, I don't an immediate reason for wanting to use more Cout. What design goal does more Cout help achieve?

If the load is high enough that PWM mode is entered, even if PFM/PWM is selected, then the stability does not change between the modes. For lighter loads in PFM mode, stability is less of a concern.
