TLV717P: Could you tell me about TLV717P's input capacitor

Hi, members.

My customers are trying to complete trial completion with using TLV717.

In addition, the aplication is wireless communication equipment.

But my customer is trying to replace the input capacitor of TLV717 from 1 uF to 0.1 uF.

※Background: Good availability of parts (capacitors), cost reduction etc ...

Of course, we understand that it is within the recommended range if it is 0.1 uF or more.

However, since it is the stage where we are about to finish the trial production, if you have concerns, please let me know.

So there is a question.

① Please tell me if there are concerns in replacing the input capacitor.

Example: When 0.1 uF is set as compared with 1 uF, the characteristics of ~~ are deteriorated.

※ Because it is a communication device, influence on noise and influence on electric characteristics items etc.,please let me teach if knowing.

② Please also mention the evaluation items and judgment indicators to be confirmed by the customer application in replacing the input capacitor.

    From the LDO perspective there are no concerns with reducing the input capacitor. From your application perspective the reduction in the input capacitor will have an effect on transient performance and effective PSRR of the application. While the PSRR of the TLV717 will remain the same, by reducing the input capacitor you are reducing a filter before the LDO.

    So, if you look at the evaluation of the input voltage transient variation of the TLV 717 as an application, you can check the existence of problems.

    Yes subjecting the TLV717 to the worst case expected line and load transients is a good step in evaluating if your design satisfies your application requirements.
